There are currently 128 possible Boy Scout merit badges that can be earned.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, you must complete many requirements.  The purpose of this page is to focus on the Merit Badges portion of the requirements.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, you must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges.  There are (12) specific merit badges that MUST be earned to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
The remainder of the merit badges must be earned as electives.

The 12 merit badges that MUST be earned to earn the rank of Eagle Scout are as follows:

1) First Aid

2) Citizenship in the Community

3) Citizenship in the Nation

4) Citizenship in the World

5) Communications

6) Personal Fitness

7) Emergency Preparedness   (OR)  Life Saving

8) Environmental Science

9) Personal Management

10) Swimming  (OR) Hiking  (OR) Cycling

11) Camping

12) Family Life
